What a glorious start we had to Forest School this week, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and the children were happy to be out in our woodland area again!
We started our session with a group game called ‘Sticky Elbows’. The children were brilliant at staying in the boundary area and finding a partner to stick their elbows, backs, fingers and toes together with! Spirits were high as we began our outdoor learning!
Following on from reading the book ‘Jasper’s Beanstalk’ by Mick Inkpen in class, the children created their own tall beanstalk by learning how to do bark rubbings onto leaf outlines. They designed giant faces using clay and natural materials found lying around on the ground and tried their hand at leaf threading using some Laurel leaves.
We had our weekly check-in with the frogspawn and noticed that the tiny black dots inside the frogspawn were changing shape. One boy described it perfectly; “It looks like a kidney bean!”.
Other children had a great time looking for minibeasts hiding under logs and others were being imaginative with the resources found around them. One giant branch became a dinosaur which took the children off on some exciting journeys!
