Wednesday 18th May
This week, we didn’t let the wet weather dampen our spirits as we threw ourselves into our Forest School warm up game. The children were split into three groups with each group having a length of rope. The children had to work together to make a series of 2D shapes; square, triangle and hexagon. For some groups this proved more challenging until they realised that cooperation and communication were the key to success. One group displayed such great teamwork that Mrs Howell suggested they play a trust game where they all learned back on the rope and supported each other’s weight…success, great stuff!
Afterwards, this week’s session enabled the children to take part in many different activities:
Toasting marshmallows…always a big hit!
People bingo – finding out some interesting facts about your friends, such as who has an unusual hobby? Travelled the furthest distance? Has a fear of a particular animal? Lots of discussion and laughter echoed from the outdoor classroom as children shared their stories.
The children made friendship bracelets.
Team games, including ‘Group Juggle’ where a pine cone is passed randomly around a circle, establishing a pattern so that everyone is aware who they are throwing it to and catching it from. When this pattern is embedded more pine cones are introduced. One group had 10 pine cones being thrown at one time… it was mind blowing but hilarious and great fun!
At the end of the session our hot chocolate was just what we needed to warm us up, before singing in the rain, ‘A roo cha cha’!
