Forest school focused all around our Fire Fire topic this week. First the children made popcorn over the open fire, which required lots of patience. Whilst around the fire the children practised fire safety, including making sure they were sat in the ‘respect position’ to ensure we were all a safe distance from the fire and wouldn’t fall or hurt ourselves. The children also had the opportunity to continue developing their secateurs skills whilst making mini-ladders for mini-firefighters as well as designing and making bravery medals for firefighters out of wood disks and string. Now the children have mastered their timber hitch knot they were able to make some very inventive, large and sturdy dens out of rope and tarpaulins to shelter from the cold frosty weather!
