A wonderful buzz filled the air as excited children got ready for their first Forest School session. The sun shone as we arrived at our Forest School site and as children gathered around the fire circle, they listened well to the rules of the area. We then played an introductory game based on forest animals that prepared the children for moving around the fire circle safely and carefully.
This week’s theme on ‘Farm Animals’ inspired the children to be creative using a range of natural materials. Our wood cookie pigs looked bright and colourful, homes were created for some farmyard animals using materials found on the forest floor and children loved exploring the qualities of mud as they joined stones together and sculptured beaks for ducks.
Next week we may see a Forest School Grand National, as children stuffed, joined and decorated with natural materials to make some woodland hobby horses!
