Reception – Forest School Summer 2017

Thursday 22nd June 2017

What a wonderful first session of Forest School the Reception children had today.  Not only were they very excited to see Explorer Ted waiting for them around the fire circle, but we had the upmost pleasure in hosting some teaching students from South Korea.  The students were really impressed by the children’s impeccable behaviour and range of activities that the children were involved in.

We learnt how to use secateurs safely and carefully and used them to cut tiny branches into different lengths to create a tree.  We used lots of mathematical language during this activity as we measured our sticks from short to long.

We decorated stones and explored what it was like to mark make on different surfaces.  Some of the stones were bumpy and difficult to hold, so it wasn’t as easy as we thought!

Who would have thought mud could be so adaptable… we turned it into paint and created our own outdoor gallery!

We also had time to match natural resources around us to paint swatches; we were amazed at how many different shades of green there were!  Flowers and leaves were also used to create prints from by hammering them onto kitchen paper with a hammer.  This was great fun!

We hope we gave our South Korean visitors an afternoon to remember?
