The second group of very excited Reception children entered Forest School for the first time today. Since our last visit the woodland has burst into life and is now full of secret pathways waiting to be discovered!
However our walk through the field to get to Forest School was just as exciting, with lots of long grass tempting us to run through it and roll in it … which we did! We completely lost Mrs. Welch!
‘Explorer Ted’ was waiting around the fire circle holding lots of pictures to tell us what to look out for to keep us safe. We soon learned how to spot nettles and now know why we need to wear long trousers and long sleeved tops!
We went off in groups and worked together to tie orange string to mark out our boundary edge. Some of us saw a baby rabbit in the grass whilst doing this important activity and couldn’t wait to share the news.
Before we had drink and snack we had some time for independent exploration. It was great fun exploring the woodland and discovering animal tracks, nibbled hazel nuts, snails and possible den building areas.
Even on a sunny day there is nothing quite like a cup of hot chocolate and a biscuit. It always tastes much nicer outdoors! After a sing song and reflection on what we had learned it was then back through the long grass to get to the minibus. Roll on next week!
