Week 2 at Forest School

Monday 22nd June 2015

Undeterred by the cooler and drizzly weather we set off for our weekly Forest School session. We began with our safety game ‘1,2,3 where are you?’, this week lots of children were confident to go off and hide by themselves.

We listened to a story called ‘Follow the Swallow’ by Julia Donaldson, a story about two friends, a blackbird and a swallow that grow up together through the seasons. Mrs. Farrington had a toy swallow and blackbird so we could hear their calls.   They sounded very different. FSBLOG22.6.4We also learned how both birds make their nests and decided to see if we could make a nest for a bird. So in 3 groups we set off to complete our challenge. We all worked well together collecting the materials that we needed off the woodland floor.

We were all thrilled with what we had made and had great admiration for birds as they don’t have hands and lots of people working together to make their homes!

Having previously talked about safety around the fire circle we decided to light a fire whilst having our snack. It made us feel warmer just by watching the dancing flames.

To conclude this week’s session we played a fun game called ‘Where is bird?’ We took it in turns to stand in the middle of a circle and had to listen carefully to see if we could identify who was tweeting the blackbird behind their back. It was harder than it looks!
