Week 3 at Forest School for Reception Class

Wednesday 6th July 2016

Explorer Ted was well hidden again this week, but our trepid explorers soon spotted him and were excited to find out what he had in his magical bag. This week Explorer Ted gave us some animal picture cards to play a game to practise walking around the fire pit. On the call of an animal the children had to move around the circle and swap places with someone else. It all became a little hectic when more than one animal was called!

Having read the story of ‘Stickman’ before we left for Forest School today, we were pleased to see Stickman and his Lady Love waiting for us in the fire circle. It was our mission to create some stick children. So we all selected suitable sticks for arms and legs, and with a little help tied them together before decorating them.

Whilst some children were creating their stick families, lots of other activities were going on around Forest School. Some children were playing a blindfolded trust game, following a line of rope tied around some trees, whilst being guided by the person in front of them.

Some children were looking for minibeasts and studying them in magnified pots. There was no shortage of ladybirds, they were everywhere we looked!

Other children wanted to carry on making their birds nests from last week.

What a wonderful session we had this week – plenty of sunshine, lots of active learning, teamwork and exploration. To keep our spirits high we sang a fun action song, ‘A roo cha cha’, which was echoed on our journey back to class!
