Year 1 – Week 3 at Forest School

Wednesday 20th January 2016

After an energetic game to get us warmed up, the children listened attentively as Mrs. Farrington demonstrated the safety around using a pair of secateurs. All the children got to practice this new technique and showed that they had listened with great care as they put a glove on their helper hand and trimmed off the small branches. The children then began to make a woodpile, sorting out the wood we collected last week into bigger logs, sticks and branches.

Miss Dhadwal was busy with a group of children using a story tree to make up their own exciting stories. The children used a range of interesting objects as a stimulus for their imaginative story telling.

Lucy and Zoe were fascinated by the compass and used it for their story starter…

“At midnight, the compass glowed and spread magic throughout the forest…”

Since exploring our new Forest School the children have been fascinated by the small pond area in the corner. So, this week they had the chance to step through the gate and get a closer look. We look forward to exploring this further and finding out what creatures are beginning to inhabit it!

To complete another wonderful afternoon, whilst we discussed our session highlight, we indulged in a cup of hot chocolate and a gingerbread man brought in from Rocco as a birthday treat. Yummy! Happy Birthday Rocco!
