Year 1 – Week 5 at Forest School

Wednesday 3rd February 2016

Children had a real challenge this week, as the class were split into two groups for a game of ‘Count off’. The idea of this game is to count from one to twenty without preplanning who is going to say which number. If more than one person says a number, the count begins from the beginning again.

Unable to get past the count of 3, children had to come up with a team plan. Waiting patiently was definitely a good strategy as well as sitting after saying a number to ensure everyone had a go. One group managed to count to 40, whereas the other group only managed 16! More practice needed at this game.

As we had so much fun creating our dragon homes last week, we decided to make a pet for our dragons using clay. As natural resources are fairly scarce this time of year we cheated slightly by enhancing them with some man made beads, feathers and matchsticks. Children busily squashed, rolled and moulded their clay and a menagerie of animals were soon created. I’m sure the dragons will be very pleased with their new found pets!

Before having a class sing song with our hot chocolate and biscuit, the children had time for their own Forest School exploration. While some continued to adapt last week’s dragon home, others took time out and relaxed in their newly made shelters!

How cosy!
