Week 4 at Forest School

Tuesday 24th February

The children were well prepared and eagerly looking forward to our fourth visit to Forest School. After a quick recap on rules and boundaries, the children were sent off to explore and rediscover the area. Our theme this week was to take a closer look at mini-beasts and how we can use the environment to create art. The children were shown examples of environmental art by artist Andy Goldsworthy and then given the opportunity to create and explain, to one another, their own works of art.

After this children were then sent off in small groups to hunt for flora, fauna and mini-beasts, with strict instructions to “Look with your eyes, not your hands” For some this proved rather difficult!

It was clear that the children had not forgotten our safety call, “One, two, three, where are you”, to which they responded, as this was the sign that another Forest School session was coming to an end.

Muddied and smiling the children were then escorted back to their waiting parents, with yet another bag of dirty clothing, this was a sure sign that the children had indeed thrown themselves into the outdoor activities……..
