Year 3 begin their Forest School experience!

Wednesday 24th February 2016

After a frosty start to the day, a beautiful sunny afternoon greeted the Year 3 children as they made their way down the school field for their first encounter of Forest School.

The children were introduced to the team game ‘Giants, dwarves and wizards’ and were soon in a healthy competitive spirit as they expertly performed their actions to do battle against each other.

Very excitedly they took their seats in the outdoor classroom and listened attentively as the safety rules and procedures of Forest School were explained.

The children were then given the task to explore their new learning environment and find a total of 30 objects not usually found in nature. Working with a partner children had to explore 3 different locations and without stepping inside the designated areas they had to make a list of what could be found. Did they spot the paperclip attached to a branch or the green Lego brick hiding in the grass? Some objects were definitely easier to find than others.

Children were then given some free time for their own exploration. While some discovered the mud slide, others were creating dens and making table decorations. To see happy, contented children interacting with the environment is always a joy to behold.

The children then had their first taste of our Forest School hot chocolate and biscuit…the quietest time of the afternoon!

A lively sing song to finish the afternoon and a review of the children’s highlights certainly gave the impression that the children had a wonderful time and are looking forward to next week’s session.
