Year 3 Forest School Week 3

Year 3: Forest School Session – 4 May 2021

Year 3 had a fantastic forest school session this week. The session started with a game of ‘Den, Fire, Log Pile, Bushes and Friends’. Mrs Farrington called out a command and the children had to quickly form a group and perform an action. The children really enjoyed this game and worked well as a class and as individual teams.

During the course of our forest school sessions, the children will complete a selection of activities. Many of these activities are based on our ‘Iron Man’ topic.

This week, one of our groups were practising the art of fire lighting. The children were required to light cotton wool using a flint and steel. The children were excellent at doing this despite the rain and wind. It was clear they really enjoyed this activity! After fire lighting, the group were challenged to identify 5 plants and trees within the forest school area. The children were given identification cards to help them to do this.

As always, our session ended with a hot chocolate and a biscuit. We used this time to be mindful. We sat quietly and used our senses to experience what was around us. Finally, we all sang ‘The Green Grass Grows All Around’. It was amazing to see the children joining in singing this song. They were very enthusiastic! We are already looking forward to our forest school session next week.
