Farewell to Forest School for the Reception Class

Wednesday 20th July 2016

What a glorious day we had for our last Forest School session this year. With temperatures in the high twenties, we were pleased to find Forest School in the shade with a lovely gentle breeze to keep us cool.

We began our session with a game of ‘Giants, Dwarves and Wizards’; this always proves to be a fun game and gets a smile on everyone’s face.

We then had a tool talk on the potato peeler and watched as Mrs Farrington demonstrated how to use a flint and steel to create a spark (or as we like to say at Forest School a dragon sneeze!). We then got the opportunity to whittle a stick using a potato peeler and tried our skills to light a ‘pixie pillow’ with a flint and steel. The sense of achievement when we had mastered this skill was amazing!

Other children were busy involved in den making, this time using tarpaulins, and others enjoyed a social chat while creating sketches of nature.

Instead of our usual hot chocolate this week, we enjoyed a lovely cup of cold juice with our biscuit and of course finished with a finale of our favourite Forest School songs. We have all enjoyed the Forest School experience and can’t wait for our journey to continue in Year 1.
